fixed json output of log entries and rearranged output for json and xml a bit #1659

refs: #1659

* code cleanup, removed double code
* structure of json is more consistent over different "views"
* tried to make json and xml more similar in data structure

No clue if every anyone uses this, but now looks tidy and useful ;-)
